Surface materials

Acouso-ROOM inventories placed wall, column, floor, ceiling, and roof construction types in the selected model scope. Roofs are treated as ceiling surfaces for room analysis.

Because Revit materials do not provide the complete acoustic properties required for room analysis, users map each relevant Revit construction type to an Acouso baseline material. The mapping applies project-wide. Revit material names remain read-only evidence; an Acouso assignment does not edit the Revit model.

Setting Baseline Materials Manually#

1. Open Surface Materials.
2. Review the Revit construction rows from the selected model scope.
3. Select one or more rows that require the same acoustic material.
4. Click Set Baseline Material.
5. Review the available materials and their descriptions.
6. Select the appropriate Acouso material.
7. Confirm the assignment.

Expected result:

• The selected Revit construction types are connected to the chosen Acouso acoustic material.
• The assignment is available to project and room analysis.

Suggesting Surface Materials#

Use Suggest Materials to prepare possible acoustic-material matches for Revit construction types, using their material information as supporting evidence.

1. Open Surface Materials.
2. Click Suggest Materials.
3. Wait for the suggestion window to open.
4. Review each suggested material and its High, Mid, or Review confidence state.
5. Accept suitable matches individually or accept the confirmed high-confidence matches together.
6. Click Choose Another where the proposed material is unsuitable.
7. Skip rows that should be resolved manually.

Suggest Materials considers active constructions currently using Generic material information. It does not replace an existing specific assignment or resolve a row already marked as needing attention. Suggestions use materials already available in the local Material Library.

Accepted suggestions update only the Acouso project mapping; they do not change the Revit construction or its materials. Suggestions should be checked against the actual construction and project specification before acceptance. Suggest Materials requires an active trial or paid full access.

Material Assignment Status#

Use the Surface Materials filters to focus the review:

• All assignments.
• Assigned.
• Using Generic.
• Needs attention.

The practical assignment states are:

• Assigned: a specific Acouso material is available and can be used by analysis.
• Generic: analysis can proceed using generic acoustic information, but the result has less project-specific material context.
• Needs Review: the saved mapping cannot currently be applied. Until the user explicitly rebinds it, analysis falls back to Generic where possible.
• Missing Material: the mapping references a material that is no longer available and must be resolved.
• Conflict: more than one possible mapping requires a user decision.

Missing materials and active conflicts can block project-wide analysis. Resolve them before running again.

Mappings are retained if a linked model is temporarily unloaded or excluded. Clearing a mapping removes the Acouso assignment but does not delete the material from Material Library.

Setup checklist#

Map the wall, column, floor, ceiling, and roof construction types found in the selected model scope to baseline Acouso materials. Accepted suggestions change the Acouso mapping only; they do not edit Revit.
