Calculation methods and scope#

Acouso-ROOM combines information from Revit with assigned acoustic properties to support room-acoustic design. These pages explain the calculation methods, effective inputs, output definitions and limitations.

The reference describes the calculation basis and observable behaviour. Implementation details remain proprietary.

Choose the relevant calculation#

WorkflowQuestion it answersCalculation basisFrequency bands
Room AnalysisHow does a room's overall reverberation change with materials and treatments?Statistical diffuse-field methods using room quantities and absorption125–4,000 Hz; six octave bands
Acoustic Ray Analysis · invited early accessHow does sound energy arrive at a particular listening position?Geometrical source-to-receiver propagation and energy-time responses63–8,000 Hz; eight octave bands

The methods answer different questions and have different assumptions. Agreement between them in one room does not establish reliability in every room or validate every output.

Validation and research#

Benchmarking against the PTB Round Robin III studio case has produced encouraging results. We are preparing the detailed findings, including the tested configuration and limitations, for publication. An academic thesis also reported close agreement between simulated and measured reverberation times following room-model calibration. See Validation for the benchmark status and academic investigation.

Using this reference#

Start with the calculation you intend to use, then check its inputs and limitations. For instructions on operating the software, use the ROOM guides. Version notes belong to individual guides; confirm that the relevant guide matches your installed build.

Review the geometry and material assignments before interpreting results. A model prediction supports a design decision; it does not certify the completed space.
