Opening A Room#
Open Room Analysis using either method:
- Click Room Analysis in the Acouso ribbon, then select a room in the Revit model.
- Select a room in Project Schedule and choose Open Room Analysis.
Expected result:
- Room Analysis opens with geometry, material, and acoustic information for the selected room.
Acoustic And Geometry Information#
The left side of Room Analysis provides:
- Compliance and occupancy information.
- Room geometry.
- Reverberation time.
- STI potential.
- Critical distance.
Use these results as design information based on the current model inputs and Acouso assignments.
STI potential is a reverberation-based screening estimate. A higher value indicates greater potential speech clarity under the calculation assumptions. It assumes ideal background-noise conditions and is not an on-site STI measurement or a compliance-grade result.
Critical distance estimates where direct and reverberant sound are equal. Room Analysis presents treated and untreated values and allows the directivity factor, Q, to be selected for the displayed estimate. Treat this as a predictive design aid rather than a measured result.
Room Diagram And Comments#
The centre of the window shows a floor-plan diagram of the room.
Users can select:
- Wall surfaces.
- Ceiling surfaces.
- Floor surfaces.
Selecting a diagram surface also selects the corresponding entry in the surface list.
Use Room Comments to record information relevant to the room or its acoustic review.
Surface List And Composition#
The right side of Room Analysis shows:
- Whether the room's materials have been resolved.
- Room surfaces and their areas.
- Surface composition information.
Select a surface to inspect its composition, including:
- The associated Revit element.
- Revit materials that make up the element.
- The Base Material used from the project mapping or applicable fallback.
- Any room-specific Finish.
- Any room-specific acoustic Treatment.
Changing Finish Materials#
- Select a wall, floor, or ceiling surface.
- Review its current composition.
- Click Add Finish, or edit the existing Finish.
- Select the required material.
- Apply the change.
- Review the updated acoustic results.
The finish assignment affects the selected room analysis and takes precedence over the project baseline for that surface. Confirm that the selected material represents the intended design finish.
Adding Acoustic Treatment#
- Select the surface to treat.
- Click Add Treatment, or edit the existing Treatment.
- Select an acoustic-treatment material.
- Choose whether the coverage applies to each selected surface or to the total selected area.
- Enter an area or percentage.
- For a total across multiple surfaces, choose whether to distribute it by surface area or evenly.
- Apply the treatment.
- Review the updated reverberation time, STI potential, and critical-distance results.
For example, a treatment can cover 25% of each selected surface or 10 square metres in total across the selection. Review the resulting distribution before relying on the calculation.
Treated And Untreated Results#
Room Analysis compares the room before and after user-applied finish or treatment changes.
- Untreated results represent the baseline room condition used for comparison.
- Treated results include the current user-applied acoustic changes.
The reverberation chart updates after changes. Outlined bars represent the result before treatment, while solid bars represent the updated result after treatment.
Window walkthrough#
Use it to understand and refine the acoustic condition of one room at a time.
- Click Room Analysis and select a room in Revit, or open a room from Project Schedule.
- Review room geometry, occupancy, reverberation time, STI potential, and critical distance.
- Select a wall, floor, or ceiling in the room diagram or surface list.
- Review its Base Material, room-specific Finish, and acoustic Treatment.
- Use Add Finish or Add Treatment to test a design change.
- For treatment across several surfaces, choose whether coverage applies to each surface or the total selection.
- Review the treated and untreated results after the change.
