Getting started

From model setup to acoustic decision

Acouso-ROOM connects Revit rooms and construction types to acoustic standards, materials, project-wide analysis, and room-level design workflows.

Before running analysis

Confirm the project standard, room occupancies, material mappings, model scope, and calculation settings. Missing materials and active mapping conflicts must be resolved.

Quick start

  1. Open User Hub, enter the authentication key, and click Verify.
  2. Open Acouso-ROOM and select the project standard.
  3. Review Settings, including linked-model scope, calculation method, display units, and room boundary handling.
  4. Assign room occupancies manually or review suggestions from Suggest Occupancies.
  5. Open Surface Materials and map relevant Revit construction types to Acouso materials.
  6. Resolve missing materials and conflicts before running project-wide analysis.
  7. Click Run Acoustic Analysis.
  8. Review the project in Project Schedule, using search and room hiding to focus the schedule.
  9. Open Room Analysis or Ray Analysis when a room needs more detailed investigation.

Command reference

Project Standards is a standalone ribbon command as well as an editor available from the Acouso-ROOM main window.

Acouso-ROOM

Configure the project, run project-wide acoustic analysis, review schedules, and manage project data.

Room Analysis

Inspect and refine one room, including its geometry, surfaces, reverberation time, STI potential, and critical distance.

Ray Analysis

Run Reflection Analysis or Source-to-Receiver analysis directly in the Revit model.

Project Standards

Create and manage standards, occupancy types, acoustic targets, and default surface materials.

Material Library

Create, import, compare, and manage acoustic materials and browse catalogue content.

User Hub

Verify access, check the current access mode, and send diagnostics to Acouso support when available.

Access

Free mode and full access

Acouso-ROOM Free is the ongoing limited-access mode. When Acouso-ROOM is first claimed, the user can start a 14-day trial with full access. After the trial, they can continue in Free mode or use paid full access.

Project setup

Prepare reliable analysis inputs

1. Project Standards

Select the standard used to assess the project, then assign an occupancy type to each room. Suggest Occupancies can prepare High, Mid, and Review confidence matches for you to accept or skip.

Open the standalone Project Standards editor directly from the ribbon, or click Edit beside the standard dropdown in the Acouso-ROOM main window.

2. Surface Materials

Map the wall, column, floor, ceiling, and roof construction types found in the selected model scope to baseline Acouso materials. Accepted suggestions change the Acouso mapping only; they do not edit Revit.

Generic mappings can be analysed with reduced project-specific context. Missing materials and active conflicts must be resolved before project-wide analysis.

3. Settings

Choose the host-only or linked-model scope, Sabine, Norris-Eyring, Millington-Sette, or Acouso calculation method, and Auto, Metric, or Imperial display units.

Coarse is the recommended first room-boundary setting. After changing linked-model scope, return to Surface Materials so the construction inventory can be rescanned.

4. Analysis Override Resets

Clear room-level occupancy, material, recommendation, geometry, or comment overrides when an earlier design state should no longer be used.

Resets are permanent and do not clear project-wide Surface Materials mappings.

Surface-material status

Use the All assignments, Assigned, Using Generic, and Needs attention filters to focus the mapping review.

Assigned

A specific Acouso material is ready for analysis.

Using Generic

Analysis can proceed, but the result uses less project-specific material information.

Needs Review

The saved mapping cannot currently be applied and uses Generic fallback until it is rebound.

Missing or Conflict

The material reference or competing mapping must be resolved before project-wide analysis.

Detailed reference

Window guides

Open a guide for the task you are completing. The main Acouso-ROOM and Project Standards guides are expanded by default.

Acouso-ROOMUse it to prepare the project, run analysis, and review project-wide results.

Steps

  1. Open Acouso-ROOM from the Revit ribbon.
  2. In Project Standards, select the standard and assign room occupancies.
  3. In Surface Materials, map construction types and resolve rows that need attention.
  4. In Settings, confirm model scope, calculation method, display units, and room boundary handling.
  5. Click Run Acoustic Analysis.
  6. Open Project Schedule to review rooms, material readiness, and exposed materials; use search and room hiding to focus the schedule.
  7. Use Import/Export for project packages, full backups, restores, and report packages.

Expected result

A consolidated project schedule with room results, target status, material readiness, STI potential, comments, and exposed-material information.

Room AnalysisUse it to understand and refine the acoustic condition of one room at a time.

Steps

  1. Click Room Analysis and select a room in Revit, or open a room from Project Schedule.
  2. Review room geometry, occupancy, reverberation time, STI potential, and critical distance.
  3. Select a wall, floor, or ceiling in the room diagram or surface list.
  4. Review its Base Material, room-specific Finish, and acoustic Treatment.
  5. Use Add Finish or Add Treatment to test a design change.
  6. For treatment across several surfaces, choose whether coverage applies to each surface or the total selection.
  7. Review the treated and untreated results after the change.

Expected result

Room-specific acoustic results and a transparent surface composition showing the baseline, finish, and treatment used by the calculation.

Ray AnalysisUse it to inspect reflection paths or compare receiver-focused results from a defined source.

Steps

  1. For Reflection Analysis, set the ray count, cone spread, reflections, maximum path length, offset, model scope, and category filters.
  2. Click Run Reflection Analysis and then click the model surface from which the source should be offset.
  3. Review the rays and Reflection Schedule.
  4. For Source-to-Receiver, place a source and one or more receivers.
  5. Configure the source, receiver, and ray settings, then save them as a reusable State if required.
  6. Run the analysis and review first arrival, direct path, reflection delay, echo risk, clarity, and first sound level when configured.

Expected result

Model-based reflection paths plus schedule or receiver information for the configured analysis.

Project StandardsUse it to create or adapt acoustic standards, occupancy types, targets, and default materials.

Steps

  1. Click Project Standards directly on the Acouso ribbon.
  2. Alternatively, open Acouso-ROOM and click Edit beside the standard dropdown.
  3. Click Add Standard, or duplicate an existing standard to use as a starting point.
  4. Add occupancy types and set their reverberation and sound-level targets.
  5. Assign default floor, wall, and ceiling materials where required.
  6. Use Cloud Catalogue to browse standards supplied by Acouso.
  7. Duplicate an installed catalogue standard when an editable copy is required.

Expected result

A user-created standard that can be selected in Acouso-ROOM and used to assign project room occupancies. Catalogue standards remain read-only references.

Material LibraryUse it to build and maintain the materials available to project setup and room design.

Steps

  1. Open Material Library from the Acouso ribbon.
  2. Click Add Material, or duplicate an existing material.
  3. Set its category and role: Standard Finish, Acoustic Treatment, or Both.
  4. Choose applicable surfaces and enter the supported absorption information.
  5. Use Advanced when mounting, installation, physical, or source information is required.
  6. Use Material Catalogue to add read-only catalogue references, or duplicate one to create an editable copy.
  7. Use Import Materials and the supplied Excel template for reviewed batch imports.

Expected result

A reusable local material set for project mappings, room finishes, treatments, standards, and material suggestions.

User HubUse it to verify access and provide diagnostics when support requests them.

Steps

  1. Click User Hub on the Acouso ribbon.
  2. Open Authentication.
  3. Enter the authentication key and click Verify.
  4. Check the displayed access mode.
  5. When available, open User Support and send diagnostics to obtain a support ID.

Expected result

The current access status and a support ID when a diagnostic package has been submitted.

Analysis results

Understand what the outputs mean

Reverberation time

Project Schedule compares the predicted room result with the selected occupancy target. Room Analysis shows the frequency-band detail and treated-versus-untreated comparison.

STI potential

A reverberation-based screening estimate of potential speech clarity under ideal background-noise assumptions. It is not an on-site STI measurement or a compliance-grade result.

Critical distance

A predictive estimate of where direct and reverberant sound are equal. Review treated and untreated values in Room Analysis and choose the appropriate directivity factor for the displayed estimate.

Materials and costs

Project Schedule gives users rich information about acoustic treatments and exposed finishes, including areas, rooms, and surface counts. These quantities can be used to calculate project acoustic material costs.

Project-wide analysis

Prepare the project and produce a coordinated schedule of room results.

  1. Verify access in User Hub.
  2. Select the standard and assign occupancies.
  3. Review Surface Materials and resolve blockers.
  4. Confirm Settings and linked-model scope.
  5. Run Acoustic Analysis.
  6. Review Project Schedule and open rooms that need further work.

Room refinement

Test finishes and treatments for one room.

  1. Open Room Analysis from the ribbon or Project Schedule.
  2. Review the baseline composition and untreated result.
  3. Add or edit a Finish or Treatment.
  4. Set treatment area, percentage, and distribution where required.
  5. Compare the updated and untreated results.

Reflection review

Visualise reflections from a selected model surface.

  1. Open Ray Analysis and select Reflection Analysis.
  2. Configure ray settings, model scope, and category filters.
  3. Run the analysis and click the source surface in Revit.
  4. Review the model rays and Reflection Schedule.

Source-to-Receiver analysis

Review receiver-specific ray results from a configured source.

  1. Open Source-to-Receiver Analysis.
  2. Place and configure the source.
  3. Place one or more receivers.
  4. Configure the ray settings and save a State if required.
  5. Run the analysis and review Reflection Schedule and Receiver Analysis.

Excel material import

Add several reviewed materials using the current template.

  1. In Material Library, click Import Materials and save the Excel template.
  2. Preserve the headers and complete the Materials sheet.
  3. Choose Metric or Imperial for the import.
  4. Select the workbook and review New, Warning, Exact match, Possible duplicate, and Error rows.
  5. Select the materials to keep and click Import Selected.

Project transfer

Move project data using an .acousoroom package.

  1. Use Export in Acouso-ROOM → Import/Export to create the project package.
  2. In the receiving project, use Import and choose the package.
  3. Review any linked-room remapping request.
  4. Recheck standards, occupancies, materials, mappings, and Project Schedule.

Full backup and restore

Protect or intentionally recover the wider local workspace.

  1. Use Full Backup and select a safe destination.
  2. Use Restore Backup only with a full backup package.
  3. Review the confirmation because a full restore can affect project data and the local material and standards libraries.
  4. Use Import, rather than Restore Backup, for a normal project package.

Report export

Create selected CSV schedules in a single report package.

  1. Run analysis so the required room results are available.
  2. Open Import/Export and click Export Report.
  3. Select the rooms and include Room schedule, Acoustic properties summary, and/or Exposed materials.
  4. Choose the destination and complete the export.
  5. Open the resulting ZIP package to access the selected CSV files.

Project packages and backups

Project Import merges an .acousoroom package into the current workspace and creates a safety backup first. Restore Backup is for full backup packages and can affect the wider local workspace.
